Samsung has earned a reputation as one of the best Android device manufacturers in terms of releasing timely updates. The latest Android security update for September 2022 has started rolling out to these Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets.
Samsung September 2022 security update – what’s new
Breaking with the usual pattern of releasing updates before the start of the new month, Samsung only began rolling out the September 2022 security patch to Galaxy devices the day after Google updated its Pixel phones. . As always, Samsung has released its own security update bulletin, which outlines the fixes and improvements included in this month’s patch.
In addition to the 24 security issues included in Google’s Android Security Bulletin, Samsung has patched at least 21 exploits exclusive to Galaxy devices. One vulnerability, marked as “High”, abused a feature of Samsung Knox to “cause a permanent local denial of service”.
Beyond typical security improvements, the September 2022 Update does not appear to include feature changes for the most of devices it has been released on so far. However, for a handful of devices like the full Galaxy Z line of foldables, Samsung included the One UI 4.1.1 update with the September patch, bringing the big screen improvements from Android 12L.
Devices with the Samsung September 2022 security update
Lately, Samsung has a ample tends to roll out updates for its phones from newest to oldest, with slightly more priority given to high-end devices like Galaxy S flagships and Galaxy Z foldables. September day will surely arrive for more devices in Galaxy’s wider lineup.
This list will include a note indicating where the update first launched and if it is also available in the United States. As usual, the latest additions will be marked in bold.
Galaxy S series
Between their premium price and mainstream popularity, the Galaxy S series of phones are often among the first to receive monthly security updates. This focus has also improved since Samsung brought previously exclusive features to the Galaxy S line in recent years.
Samsung kicked off the month by releasing the new patch for last year’s flagship phones, the Galaxy S21 series, starting September 7. The Galaxy S20 FE 5G was a close second, picking up the update the same day across much of Europe. The LTE version of the S20 FE received the same patch a few days later.
There have been some interesting back and forths for owners of the Galaxy S22 series this month. Samsung initially rolled out the latest update in Europe on September 8, before pausing it on the Galaxy S22 and S22+ the following day. In the end, Samsung released a different version of the update for Galaxy S22 series owners to the world on September 13, almost a week later.
The next batch of Galaxy S phones to be patched included the Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy S21 FE on September 13, while the Exynos model of the latter phone was a day late. The Galaxy S20 and S20 5G both picked up their updates on September 15. Going back to another generation, the full Galaxy S10 and S10e series were patched on September 20.

Galaxy Z Series Foldables
Samsung has been leading the charge in foldable Android devices lately, turning them from a futuristic concept into an affordable reality. Given the company’s focus on foldables and the raw retail cost of these phones, Galaxy Z Flips and Z Folds often receive the same level of consistent updates as Galaxy S phones.
However, that didn’t really hold true for September, with this month’s update not reaching any Galaxy Z phones until almost the middle of the month. Luckily, it happened for a good reason, as most of the foldables updated this month also got a boost to One UI 4.1.1, which is based on Android 12L and includes Google’s improvements. for large screen devices.
Starting September 13, owners of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 both started receiving the latest patch from Verizon. Notably, Verizon’s version of this update comes with two new bloatware apps, “Bingo Blitz” and “Blocks.” The Galaxy Z Flip and Z Flip 5G were later patched around the same time on September 14. On September 15, Galaxy Z Fold 2 owners received their security patch and One UI update.
Far behind the rest of the foldables, the recently released Galaxy Z Fold 4 didn’t receive its first security update until September 30.

Galaxy Note Series
The Galaxy Note line was effectively discontinued as of 2021, with the Note 20 generation marking the final version of the series. Nonetheless, many of these devices are still actively supported by Samsung, receiving consistent updates. This month notably marked the end of updates for the Galaxy Note 9.
No surprise, the first Galaxy Note to be updated for September was the most recent, the Galaxy Note 20, picking up the patch on September 7. The more affordable Galaxy Note 10 Lite was next, updated on September 15.

Galaxy Tab series tablets
Since we don’t rely on our tablets as much as we do on our smartphones, Samsung usually only updates the Galaxy Tab series on a quarterly or semi-annual basis. Many of Samsung’s tablets have been updated with the August patch over the past few weeks, bringing One UI 4.1.1, so we probably won’t see too many Galaxy Tab series updates this month.
That said, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite received a slightly different update than its more premium counterpart, with One UI 4.1.1 and the most recent security patch on September 16.
Galaxy A/M/F Series
In addition to high-end offerings, Samsung also offers a host of more affordable Android phones. Between the mid- and high-end Galaxy A series and the low-end Galaxy M and Galaxy F series options, Samsung delivers surprisingly regular updates for even its cheapest phones.
At this point, on the same day as the Galaxy S21 update, Samsung rolled out an update for the Galaxy A52s 5G. Next was the Galaxy A53 5G which picked up the update on September 13, followed the next day by the Galaxy A33 and A52. Meanwhile, the 5G variant of this latest phone was updated on September 15.
Further down the ladder, Samsung’s first M-series phone to get an update this month was the Galaxy M12 on September 20. Just before the end of the month, Samsung rolled out patches for the Galaxy A12 Nacho and Galaxy A71, both of which are only slated to receive quarterly updates.
