‘Tarzan in New York doing parkour on the way’: Jokes flood the internet as Sony plans to ‘reinvent’ an iconic character for the 21st century

Sony has acquired the screen rights to the iconic character, Tarzan, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to the publication, the studio is planning a “total reimagining” of the character. Fans on Twitter have gone wild since the news broke, with many hilarious tweets being shared. One user mentioned that the movie/show will feature Tarzan ”in New York doing some parkour along the way. ”

The character of Tarzan has been explored many times in various popular movies and shows. In the silent era, Scott Sidney directed Tarzan of the monkeys, with Elmo Lincoln in the lead role. The hit film spawned three sequels, titled Tarzan’s novel, Tarzan’s sonand The Adventures of Tarzan.

One of the most popular series of Tarzan films began in 1932 with WS Van Dyke Tarzan the Ape Man. Two remakes of the film were later made in 1959 and 1981. The original 1932 film starred Johnny Weissmuller in the lead role, for which he received critical acclaim.

A number of Tarzan animated films have also been made over the years, including the 1999 Disney film, simply titled Tarzanwhich featured Tony Goldwyn and Minnie Driver as part of her voice acting, Tarzan and Joan, Tarzan IIand Tarzan of the monkeys.

Tarzan’s last live-action movie was directed by David Yates, titled The Legend of Tarzan. The film stars Alexander Skarsgård in the lead role, along with many other prominent actors trying out key roles. These include Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, and Margot Robbie, among many others.

The Legend of Tarzan follows its titular character as they head back out into the jungle as part of an investigation into alleged slavery. The film’s official synopsis, according to Warner Bros., reads:

”It’s been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Margot Robbie) by his side.’ ‘

The synopsis further states:

”Now he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as Parliament’s trade emissary, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, orchestrated by Belgian Captain Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz ), but those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.

Although the film was a commercial success, it didn’t quite garner the attention and fans it was hoping for. It received mixed to positive reviews from audiences and critics.
